About Netflix
Netflix broke into the UK market in early 2012 to rival the offering by the already popular Amazon Prime Video.
There is a raft of films and TV series to watch and a lot of student favourites such as Making a Murderer, Sons of Anarchy, House of Cards, Orange Is the New Black and many more are included.
Netflix
If you have not signed up before you can try it out and can cancel your subscription at any time, though unfortunately there isn’t any discount available to students.
Netflix subscription options
Though students won’t see any special discounts on Netflix subscriptions, there are four tiers to suit different budgets.
The Basic with adverts subscription costs £4.99 per month and is a great way to enjoy TV and films at a lower price point. You won't be able to download content and a limited number of films and TV programmes won't be available due to licensing restrictions. You can enjoy Netflix in HD quality (up to 720p) on one device at a time.
The Netflix Basic subscription costs £6.99 per month and is the best bargain for student houses with just one TV. You can watch unlimited films and TV series' with good video quality and a resolution of 480p. As with all subscription options, you can watch on your TV, computer, mobile phone and tablet, though you’ll only be able to watch on one device at a time.
The Standard subscription costs £10.99 per month and offers better video quality with a resolution of 1080p (known as Full HD). With this option, you can watch on two devices at the same time, so it’s a good choice for those who have just one flatmate.
The Premium subscription is the top-tier option, costing £15.99 per month. This one offers the best video quality and lets you stream selected content in 4K or Ultra HD. One of the biggest perks of this option is that you can watch on up to four different devices at the same time. If you split the cost between four housemates, it’ll cost just under £3.50 each for a whole month, so this one is the best value!
You can each have your own profile, too, so don’t worry too much about having to confess to how many episodes of Superstore you watched in one sitting…
