12 Domino’s hacks for free and cheap food

Feeling lazy today? We've got you covered. Domino's has been our saving grace ever since we first entered the lecture hall, and here's how to get your favourite pizzas for less.

Sometimes it's so hard to part with £25 for that much-needed pizza.

Yes, you could make your own pizza at home or grab one from the freezer, but we know it's just not the same. Plus, you don't get the garlic and herb dip at home – which, to be honest, is the only reason we order.

Whether you're a once a week order-er, a once a month-er or a Two-for-Tuesday-tyrant, we've collected all of our favourite hacks to help you get your Domino's order cheaper.

Cheap Domino's hacks

Here are the best ways to save money on your Domino's order:

1. Order one large instead of two small pizzas

   Why would you pay more for less? You wouldn't, so don't do it at Domino's.

   We've done some intense research into the Domino's menu and discovered that a large pizza is not only bigger than two smalls, but it's significantly cheaper too. Don't believe us? Allow us to explain the maths.

   One small Cheese & Tomato pizza (9.5 inches wide, or 70.9 square inches) costs £15.99, while a large pizza (13.5 inches wide, or 143.1 square inches) with the same toppings costs £20.99.

   That means a small pizza works out about 23p per square inch, while a large is just 15p per square inch!

   While the exact numbers won't always be the same, the principle is pretty consistent across the menu: one large pizza is cheaper than two small pizzas. Stop wasting money and start saving it instead, all the while enjoying some delicious pizza.

2. Get more Garlic and Herb dip

   For just an extra £1.99, you can make your life infinitely better by investing in a 100g Garlic and Herb dip. Because sometimes the 25g one that comes free with the pizza just isn't enough.

   Or, if that's too much for you, spend 79p to get another small dip, or £1.19 for two more small dips.

   Just remember that you will get one complimentary dip with every pizza. To save even more, you could exercise some willpower and ration out the freebie as best you can.

3. Create a giant garlic bread pizza

   Who doesn't love garlic bread? Nobody. And who doesn't love pizza? Again, nobody. So it's probably not a stretch to say that this is the greatest Domino's hack of them all.

   By adding 'Garlic Spread' as a topping for your base (a free topping swap on most pizzas), you can create your very own garlic bread pizza.

   So, for example, you could swap out the onions on an American Hot and have yourself a delicious giant garlic pizza bread with pepperoni and jalapenos for just £22.99.

   Or, for an even cheaper option, you can order a large Cheese & Tomato pizza and then swap out the tomato sauce for the garlic butter. That way you can enjoy a giant garlic bread with cheese for just £20.99.

4. Change your toppings to create a new pizza

   As any seasoned Domino's fan knows, you can change two toppings for free. Yes, that's right, free pizza customisation. Sometimes, you'll be able to change toppings to create a cheaper pizza than ordering it from the main menu.

   For example, in most locations, you can save £1 on the Pepperoni Passion (normally £23.99) by ordering an American Hot and taking off all toppings except for the pepperoni, and adding extra pepperoni and some extra cheese (£22.99).

   You can also get creative and invent your own pizza. If you're looking for a tasty recommendation, we regularly swap out the sweetcorn on the Chicken Feast for bacon rashers or onions! Much better.

5. Save money on potato wedges

   Why spend £5.99 on a side of potato wedges when you can buy the same ones cheaper from the supermarket?

   We've heard reports of Domino's staff visiting the local supermarket when they've run out of wedges, so don't pay more than you have to. Interestingly enough, Nando's also uses McCain chips in its meals.

6. Use 'Create Your Own' to make a cheaper Margherita

   Don't even think about clicking 'Margherita' from the main menu. Use Create Your Own to customise your pizza and have it cheaper.

   A large Margherita pizza off their main menu will set you back £20.99, but choosing a large 'Create Your Own', with Classic Crust, Tomato Sauce and Mozzarella will cost you £1 less: £19.99.

7. Get a student discount at Domino's

   Domino's student discount is one of our favourites. The current Domino's student discount stands at 35% – perfect for when it's not Two for Tuesday and you're craving a Meat Feast.

   Unfortunately, though, you're unable to stack these discounts together – so pick whichever is highest on the day of your order.

8. Create Your Own pizza

   Have you ever tried pairing chicken breast strips with smoked bacon rashers and peppers? It's got to be one of the best combos out there, and it's not even on the main menu.

   We've also been told that a Create Your Own pizza with chicken breast strips and garlic butter is a winner too... although we're yet to taste-test this ourselves.

9. Get 50% off Domino's

   Do you know a member of staff who is willing to let you sponge off their 50% discount? If not, start making some friends!

   Domino's staff discount scheme is one of the best out there and you'll save so much more. Although it does require having friends who not only work there, but are generous enough to lend it to you too.

   Alternatively, you can look at what deals are offered by your local Domino's. Often, you can get up to a 50% discount if you spend over a certain amount or collect your pizzas instead of having them delivered.

10. How to reheat a Domino's pizza

    Why order another takeaway when you could just reheat last night's leftover pizza?

    The only issue is, reheating pizza can be one of life's most stressful experiences. What if it doesn't taste quite as nice as when it was delivered?

    We've tried a number of ways to reheat pizza, including microwaving it and heating it in a dry frying pan. In our opinion, the best way to reheat it without it getting soggy is to wrap it in foil and put it in the oven.

    Sure, it can make pizza go soggy, but here are some foods you can cook in the microwave without compromising on quality.

11. Two for Tuesday

    Tuesday really is one of the best days to order a Domino's pizza, as it means you can take advantage of their Two for Tuesday offer.

    Quite simply, this promotion means that you can get two for the price of one – an incredible deal we really can't say no to.

12. Use cashback

    Ordering your pizza online? Make sure to use a cashback website.

    By going through one of these sites (TopCashback and Quidco are our favourites), you can get a percentage of your purchase back. It's essentially free cash and it doesn't cost you anything extra. Win-win!

    And don't just look for Domino's own website. Just Eat and Uber Eats often have cashback offers too, so you may want to order your pizza through them instead.
