Living and renting in Edinburgh

Average rent for student houses

If you’re studying in Edinburgh and are thinking about where to live, you’ll be wondering how much you can expect to pay per week in rent. It varies depending on the area you choose and the type of property you’re looking for, but expect to see the following prices on the market:

  • Morningside: £95.00-£150.00
  • Marchmont: £90.00-£130.00
  • City Centre: £110.00-£200.00

Don’t forget that you’ll also need to pay for letting agency fees, a deposit and bills. Before signing up for anything, check out our guide to tenancy agreements.

Popular student areas

As the capital city of Scotland, there’s no shortage of accommodation in Edinburgh. For the best rental rates, stick to areas such as Morningside and Marchmont. Both have strong student communities and a variety of bars, pubs, restaurants and shops.

Public transport links are excellent, though if you want to save some extra cash, try to find a property that’s within easy walking distance of your university campus.
